Flyback Transformer

Flyback transformer is also called single-ended flyback or "Buck-Boost" converter. It is named because its output terminal gets energy when the primary winding is disconnected from the power supply. Flyback converters are popular among development engineers for their simple circuit structure and low cost.

    Advantage

The advantages of flyback transformers are:

    1. The circuit is simple and can efficiently provide multiple DC outputs, so it is suitable for multiple sets of output requirements.

    2. High conversion efficiency and small loss.

3.The transformer turns ratio is small.

    4. When the input voltage fluctuates in a large range, there can still be a relatively stable output. At present, the AC input can be achieved between 85~265V. There is no need to switch to achieve the requirements of stable output.

    Disadvantage

The disadvantages of flyback transformers are:

    1. There is a large ripple in the output voltage, and the load adjustment accuracy is not high, so the output power is limited, and it is usually applied below 150W.

2.When the conversion transformer works in the continuous current (CCM) mode, there is a large DC component, which is easy to cause the magnetic core to saturate, so an air gap must be added to the magnetic circuit, which causes the transformer to become larger.

3.The transformer has a DC current component and will work in both CCM / DCM modes at the same time, so the transformer is more difficult to design, the number of repeated adjustments is more than the forward type, and the iteration process is more complicated.
